There’s no word yet on this coming to other regions, but it feels like a clear move to get people geared up for Breath of the Wild’s sequel and Splatoon 3, both of which are scheduled to arrive next year. However, historically, that’s not how things like this are done. For many, that’s precious cargo room they would love to see offloaded to the cartridge itself. It’s not yet been confirmed whether or not this content is already on the cartridge or if you still have to download all of the Expansion Pass content to your system. This is very similar to “Game of the Year” editions that a lot of triple-A games in the West like to do, though rarely four years after the game releases. For a company that rarely puts its own games on sale (especially its biggest hitters), that’s a good deal! The full expansion pass for Breath of the Wild is still $24.99 here in the States, which is not a small chunk of change to shave off the total price. It expands Breath of the Wild in the way official DLC would, adding new quests, weapons, bosses, and more. The Expansion Pass is available for both the Nintendo Switch TM and Wii U TM versions of the game.
